Sir Scooter the Brave Slays the Smog Dragon

Hi friends,

We’re nearing the end of the 2025 Spare The Air season! Since May, I’ve been travelling throughout Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo, and Solano counties sharing information about our air quality, and how we can all help improve it.

It has been a ‘whirlwind’ for sure, but now that we’re about to wind down for the year, I thought today would be the perfect time to share my favorite bedtime story.

Once upon a time, I visited a magical place called the Kingdom of the Sacramento Region, where the air quality prince asked me to help with a huge problem. A scary air pollution dragon was making the skies polluted and icky and he wanted me, Scooter the Spare The Air Dog, to figure out how to stop it from getting stronger.

I thought for a moment – a dragon!? Then I remembered, I know All About Air Pollution. This would be easy, right?

I assured the prince that I was the right pup for the job and set off on my quest! First, I traveled to the Hills of El Dorado, then I journeyed to the Lands of Placer, pedaling my bicycle the entire way. Finally, I took public transit through the Plains of Yolo and Solano, searching for the answer – How do you slay an air pollution dragon?

I came to a university where wizards from across the globe come to study. At a lecture, a wise wizard called A. Q. Index  (like air quality!) explained everything. Gas-powered carts, wagons and carriages release fumes that turn into smog that feeds the air pollution dragon!

I rushed back to the castle to tell the prince, “I have discovered a way to slay the dragon!” I barked. By walking, biking, planting trees, or using electric vehicles, we can cut smog, starve the air pollution dragon and help to Spare The Air for all!”

For my bravery, I was knighted Sir Scooter, the Brave. Now, I watch over the entire kingdom and help keep it safe and healthy, sharing tips to reduce air pollution across the land.

The End.

I hope my favorite story helps you understand what Spare The Air is all about. We may not be fighting real dragons, but the choices we make every day – such as driving less, using cleaner energy, and planting something green – help fight smog and keep our air healthier.

Will you join me as an air quality knight of the round table? Together, we can defeat the smog dragon and help keep the skies clearer for everyone.

Until next time,

The Paw Print Signature of Scooter
